Visualizing Monolid Magic: Less Crease, More Creativity
Monolid eyes are more than a feature- they’re a creative canvas to experiment on! With a smoother canvas and minimal crease space, monolid eye makeup lets you reimagine how liner, shimmer, and shadow interact. If you’ve ever felt unseen by all those generic eye makeup tutorials, you're not alone! We're here to help you and have got something just for you!
A monolid is an eyelid shape most common in East Asians. They don't have a visible crease separating the lid into two sections. It’s often misunderstood by mainstream beauty tutorials, which focus heavily on crease definition and shadow gradients.
As said rightfully by Sandy Lin, a celebrity makeup artist, "Monolids don’t need a crease to create drama. They let you treat the lid like a single canvas- and that’s power."
Use a soft matte shadow slightly above your natural lid space. Blend it outward in a half-moon shape to mimic a natural fold. For shimmer, centre it slightly higher than you would on other eye shapes.
Flip the traditional gradient. Place the darkest shadow near the lash line and let it fade upwards. This works beautifully to add depth without needing a crease.
Apply a clear or lightly tinted gloss across the lid and use graphic liner on top for a fun finish.
Monolids hold eyeliner like a dream! It's because there’s less interference from folds, which means less smudging.
"The best liner for monolids is one that dries fast and doesn’t drag. Gel pens and liquid felt-tips are your best friends." — Nam Vo, Makeup Artist
